UNICollaboration is hosting its final research webinar in the series on Identifying and Interrogating Coloniality in Virtual Exchange.
This 3rd webinar will address the issue of coloniality in the context of South Africa and implications it has on education and virtual exchange practices. The speakers will also discuss efforts to implement decolonial approaches to critical virtual exchange research and practice.
The speakers in this webinar are Divinia Jithoo and Dr Samia Chasi:
Divinia Jithoo is a specialist in International Education at the Durban University of Technology. She has extensive experience in higher education internationalisation with a keen focus on internationalisation of the curriculum. Divinia has developed specialised expertise in International Virtual Engagement, and specifically, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) as an approach to inclusive internationalisation. She holds a PhD in Higher Education Studies from the University of Western Cape. Her research has highlighted global structural dynamics of academic cross border collaboration.
Dr Samia Chasi is a practitioner, scholar and facilitator in higher education internationalisation with 25 years of experience in this field. She is currently the Manager: Strategic Initiatives, Partnership Development and Research at the International Education Association of South Africa.
Before joining IEASA, she worked in international offices of German and South African universities, an agency of the European Commission as well as representations of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Nuffic and the British Council in South Africa.
Dr Chasi is passionate about facilitating deeper understanding and connections between diverse people and institutions by creating spaces for critical engagement and constructive dialogue. Her current research interests lie in Global South perspectives on higher education internationalisation, with a particular focus on South-North partnerships and decolonial approaches.
Dr Chasi holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, a Master of Philosophy in Engineering Management from the University of Johannesburg and a Master of Arts in English, Russian and Sociology from the University of Rostock, Germany.
